Intel's New Core i7 Series

Intel has recently released a new series of processors, known as the Core i7 series, overtaking the Core2Duo series which have been left behind for this new architecture. In the series so far are 3 processors. The Core i7 Extreme 965 (3.2GHz), Core i7 940 (2.93GHz) and the Core i7 920 (2.66GHz). The architecture is an overhaul of the core2duo series, instead of the 775 socket, they have been replaced by the 1366 socket.

Multi-threading has made a return from the old Pentium 4 series. Performance gains can be up to 30% on the current core2duo series, that is overall processing speed, mainly decoding movies and compressing files. Games have not yet utilized these sorts of processors with multi-cores, so don't expect much improvement there.

Prices range from $460AU - $1700AU for the new i7 CPU's. A full review can be found here.
